Monday, 9 July

Full Day Cape Town - Table Mountain and the Historic City Centre, 07:45 - 16:30

An early morning ascent of Table Mountain, the majestic sandstone bastion guarding over the "Mother City" of South Africa will be followed by a motorized and walking tour of the historical center of Cape Town. Amongst others, you will be able to view the Castle which is the oldest building in South Africa, the Town Hall where Mr Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech after being released from prison, the District 6 Museum, the Company Gardens and the Bo-Kaap which is often referred to as the Malay Quarters of the city.

Please Note:

  • If the ascent of Table Mountain is not possible due to poor weather conditions – a visit to nearby Signal Hill will be done as an alternative – including a little surprise!

Full Day Historical Cape Winelands, 08:30 - 17:00

The full day will be spent in the Cape Winelands, although the focus today is on the history of the area rather than the wine. We will visit the Village Museum in Stellenbosch, the Huguenot Memorial and Museum in Franschhoek as well as the Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument and thatched-roof Church in Paarl. A wine-tasting will be enjoyed at a selected wine cellar.

Morning Half Day Walking Tour, Bites and Sites of Stellenbosch, 10:00 - 12:30
(Included for Registered Accompanying Persons)

Tickle you taste buds as your experienced local guide leads you through the historic heart of Stellenbosch with its splendid buildings and colourful characters. Enjoy delightful stories about the historic places we visit and the people who once lived there as we stroll down the oak-lined streets with its beautiful architecture and outdoor art. Sample biltong and droëwors from a small family-run butchery – you can't leave the country without trying it!

We stop at a charming coffee shop for tea or coffee and enjoy some home-made cake. Our final stop is Oom Samie se Winkel, the oldest shop in town, for some of South Africa's favourite sweets.

Tuesday, 10 July

Full Day Grand Tour of the Cape Peninsula, 07:45 - 17:00

We depart Stellenbosch and the day starts with a sea cruise from Hout Bay harbour to view the Cape fur seals on Duiker Island. This is followed by a visit to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope nature reserve, as well as a scenic round trip along some of the most dramatic coastline in the world. Lunch and a visit to the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach near Simonstown are optional.

Full Day Tour of the Passes and the Sea, 08:15 - 16:00

Enjoy breathtaking views from Clarence Drive along the False Bay coast, which will bring you to Betty's Bay, where you will visit the penguin colony at Stony Point and do a guided walk in the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens. By lunch time you will reach Hermanus – the best land-based Whale viewing point in the world, according to the WWF. Let's hope that the whales are early again in 2012 to give their spectacular shows in the water. En route back to Stellenbosch we will negotiate both the Houw Hoek and Sir Lowry Passes. A stop will also be made at a roadside farm stall for a close look at some of our local preserves.
